Plug-in Solar Panels: A New Arrival on the Belgian Market

Since March 17, plug-in solar panels (also known as plug-in panels) have been authorized on the Belgian market. Their use is permitted from April 17, provided that the devices are approved by Synergrid and that the total power does not exceed 800 watts.

This type of solar panel falls under the extended producer responsibility for photovoltaic panels. In practical terms, this means they must be included in the quarterly declaration to PV CYCLE Belgium. PV CYCLE Belgium is committed to collecting these panels free of charge at the end of their life cycle through the existing collection network – which includes more than 100 collection points – and ensuring their proper recycling.

A separate category will be created in the declaration. The environmental contribution for these panels remains the same as for a standard panel: €1.50 per panel with an aluminum frame.

In addition to traditional distribution channels (distributors, installers), plug-in solar panels will likely also be sold through other retail channels, such as DIY stores and online platforms. New market players offering these panels can comply with regulations by joining PV CYCLE Belgium.
